Over 17 million households in the United States use individual wells.
The proper construction is key to operating and maintaining a water well.
Having an adequate supply of water is a valuable asset to have at your home. Ground water resources provide the highest quality drinking water. At Michael Barlow Well Drilling we take pride in making sure you have a dependable and excellent functioning well which is why we offer a one year warranty on the proper construction of our wells. We specialize in new construction or replacement of water wells.
Along with owning a well, also comes the responsibility to ensure that your well is functioning at its highest potential. The National Ground Water Association recommends routine annual maintenance checks to ensure the proper operation of the water well, to prolong its years of service, and to ensure your well is a safe source of water.
We offer the following services:
Water Well Drilling
We specialize in new construction or replacement of water wells. Wells extract water from aquifers. A pump and pipe are inserted in the well to extract water from the ground.
Land Development
We use multiple drill rigs to quickly complete development water well drilling projects.
Hydrofacuring
Have a low yielding well? Increase the water yield from your sites geologic formations, mainly only used on wells producing a low yield.
Yield Testing
A yield test measures the gallons per minute your well is producing. This is required for new wells and recommended before the purchase of a property with an existing well. The State of Maryland requirement is (1) one gallon per minute. If the well is pumping 3GPM or less, we are required to pump the well for 6 hours. If the well is pumping 4GPM or better, we are required to pump the well for 3 hours.
Well Abandonment
We can abandon and seal drilled or hand dug water wells. Homeowners, you cannot abandon a water well yourself as a Master Well Driller is required to perform the abandonment and fill out a Completion Report to submit to the residing County.
Down the Well Camera Troubleshooting
Using modern technology, we can lower our camera down your well and view your well on our portable TV to examine and troubleshoot any issues inside your well.
I need a well drilled, what is the process?
The first step would be to determine if you are in need of a replacement well or a new well on vacant.
Replacement Well
1. Call a licensed well driller to meet on site to discuss and pick the new well location. The new well location is determined by set backs including property lines, septic location, neighboring septics, road distance and home distance. We would put a stake in the location marking the designated well location.
2. Once well location is determined, we would then file for a State of Maryland Permit to Drill with your residing County. Once the County receives the permit, they will come out to the property and physically check the well location. It typically takes 2-4 weeks to receive an approved permit from the County. Emergency wells (households with no water) take precdence and can be turned around in a week or less.
3. Once we receive the approved permit, we would then schedule the job for drilling.
New Well on Vacant Lot
1. On a vacant lot, typically we would recommend have a licensed surveyor to survey the property and prepare a site plan showing the proposed house, proposed septic, and proposed well. If you do not have a licensed surveyor, we can help pick the well location with the Customer. We would need the four corners of the property staked in order to properly pick a well location.
2. Once well location is determined, we would then file for a State of Maryland Permit to Drill with your residing County. Once the County receives the permit, they will come out to the property and physically check the well location. It typically takes 2-4 weeks to receive an approved permit from the County.
3. Once we receive the approved permit, we would then schedule the job for drilling.
THE MESSY TRUTH BEHIND WELL DRILLING
While drilling a water well or geothermal bore, the drilling process can be messy! When drilling the drilling spoils come out of the well and onto the ground and combine that with water from the well and it creates a muddy mess! We do try to limit the amount of mud and dirt as best we can and try to keep the mud contained and tidy with silt fence. We understand the importance of maintaining a clean and beautiful neighborhood. However, sometimes water control in high yielding wells can be difficult but we do take action the best we can. Within our contracts terms we specify that we do not handle clean up and landscaping. This means that when we leave your house there may be a pile of drill cuttings. Your yard will need to have the spoils removed, a layer of top soil spread out and sod laid down or seeded and straw laid down. We are not a landscaping company and recommend you have a professional restore your yard back to its pristine state! If you would like us to include the price of clean up in your proposal we would be more than happy to include the pricing for a landscaping company.
